  • Two selected final project proposal.  More to come soon:

    • Pscheme: adding parallelism to a simple version of Scheme

    • 164vis:  a front-end for Protovis

  • If you still have slip days, you may use a maximum of two on project 3 milestone 3 and a maximum of two on the milestone for the final project.

  • You may use slip days on project 3 milestone 2.

  • In recognition of Veterans Day, the first milestone is pushed to Thursday night.

  • HW3 has been assigned.  Have fun!

  • The solutions to midterm 1 have been posted.

  • We are establishing, effective immediately, the EECS practice of 5 free late days for course projects.  In each project, you can use up to two free late days (with 5 in total).  After that, it’s 10% penalty per day.  There are no late days for milestones.

This change requires us to change submission instructions since we need to know on which day you wished to submit the project.  Specifically, you will have to create a tag not just for milestones but also for the final project: For the final submission, copy your code into tags/proj2/final.
  • Project 2 has been extended until Sunday, October 25 11:59 PM.

  • Joel will hold extra office hours on Monday 10/19 from 1-2 in 511 Soda.

  • Four ideas for extra credit on Project 2 have been posted.

  • HW2 grades and solutions have been posted.

  • Three grammars for Project 2 have been posted.

  • There will be no slip days for this class.  Sorry.

  • As you know, our code assumes that you are using python 2.6.2.  This version of python is available on nova.eecs in /usr/local/bin/python.  You may want to change your PATH variable so that it prefers /usr/local/bin over /usr/bin. Note that 2.6.2. seems to be installed only on nova.eecs.We will be testing the projects on that machine.

  • HW1 solutions have been posted.  Grades are available on glookup.
  • Ras' Tue office hours will be moved to 5-6, for the rest of the semester.
  • HW2 has been posted.
  • Project 1 grades are available on glookup.  The grading criteria I used is here.
  • A small change has been made in HW1, Problem 2, Parts 5 and 6.  A more detailed explanation.
  • The instructions for submitting project 1 have been posted.
  • We are still working with the instructional staff on setting up SVN, which we plan to use for project 1 submission.  Therefore, the project deadline will be delayed by one day.  We will post instructions on how to submit today.
  • HW1 has been assigned.
  • The Wednesday 5-6 section has been rescheduled to Thursday 2-3 in Hildebrand B51.  If you're signed up for the Wednesday 5-6 section and can make the new one, please attend it.  If you can't make the new time but can attend the Wednesday 12-1 section, you may switch to it.  To make room, if you're currently in the Wednesday 12-1 section and prefer the other time, please switch as well.  Sorry for any inconvenience.
  • Project 1 has been posted.
  • How to add comments to CS164 web pages. All you need is to create an account at pbworks.com.  Being logged in with that account will allow you to add a comment.  When you are logged in, you should be able to add an anonymous comment, too.
  • Survey on section times: After taking the survey in class, we realized that some students who are registered for the 12:00 section may, too, want to switch to a more suitable section time. Therefore, we would like to ask everyone to enter all the times when they are available. Please fill out the survey by Sunday.
  • No textbook will be required. We will assign reading as needed.  Please let us know when slides and handouts do not sufficiently explain the material.
  • Recitations will be held this Wednesday.
